Katharina Hochban

NOTE: 
1) Very little  was known about Katharine Hochban accept for some scattered memories from Joseph Birg.. He recalled visits  from Katharine, and her second husband, Nicholas Dittrich,  to his parents farm at Crivitz, Wisconsin,. and provided Anton Knapp's death date (1940), Katharine's first husband. 

Joe also knew that the Knapps had two children and  made  contact in late 2005,with a daughter, Rosemary Knapp-Quavier, in California . Unfortunately, before meeting, he got a message she had just died Jan. 31, 2006. I also found that Rosemary was born in Milwauke, 1926, and that Anna, age 1, was the child who immigrated with the Knapps in 1922 to Canada.

2) The first daughter, Anna, actually was adopted by the Knapps in Belgrade and this story is better told by Anna's daughter, Rose Schuenemann, who provided me with fascinating letters. See her webpage below written with  her own words. Rose, provided many details which are added to the Katharine Hochban story.

3) The Knapp family left Europe in 26 Aug 1922 then once in Canada,  moved near Regina, SK where Anton's sister Katharine lived with husband Adam Hasenfratz . Thier stay was short as the family with Anna, now age 3, left Regina, crossed the border at Portal ND, and evntually located in Milwuakee. It wasn't untill 1926 that daughter Rosemarie was born.
