One interesting little story about Johann dealt with Rumanian horse thief's. These robber bands from Rumania used to steal pigs and horses from various farms. Around 1925, they tried to break into house #1 and had torn down the gate to free the horses. Fortunately for Johann, he had kept some protection dogs in his yard which thwarted the robbery, however, his neighbors lost two horses.
